Storing carbon bikes: mistakes to absolutely avoid

Introduction

A carbon bike is an investment of several thousand euros. Yet, many cyclists make storage mistakes that can irreparably damage their frame. Here are the 7 mistakes to absolutely avoid.

Mistake #1: Using a bare metal hook

A metal hook without protection can scratch or crush carbon fibers at the point of contact. Always use a support with a protective coating or zero contact with the frame.

Mistake #2: Hanging by the seat tube

The carbon seat tube is not designed to support the weight of the bike in tension. Prefer a support that rests on the wheel or the main frame.

Mistake #3: Storing in a damp place

Humidity does not directly damage carbon, but it attacks metal components (screws, bearings, derailleur) that are integral to the frame.

Mistake #4: Exposing to thermal shocks

Sudden temperature variations (uninsulated garage in winter) can weaken the epoxy resins that bind the carbon fibers.

Mistake #5: Leaving the bike on the ground

A bike left on the ground is a bike that can fall. Even a low-height fall can crack a carbon frame.

Mistake #6: Overtightening fasteners

If you use straps or fasteners to secure the bike, never overtighten them on the carbon frame.

Mistake #7: Neglecting regular inspection

Regularly inspect your carbon frame for any cracks or delaminations. A wall mount facilitates this visual inspection.

The solution: the premium wall mount

Our David & Clément mounts avoid all these mistakes: zero contact with the frame, solid attachment, stable position. Your carbon is safe.
