Installing an e-bike rack: a serious matter
With an e-bike sometimes weighing over 30 kg, the installation of a wall-mounted rack must be impeccable. A poorly executed installation can lead to the bike falling, damaging the wall, or, worse, injuring someone.
Step 1: Choose the right wall
Not all walls are created equal. Prefer:
- Concrete or solid brick: ideal, offers maximum strength
- Plasterboard or drywall partition: possible with suitable anchors and by targeting the studs
- Avoid hollow walls without reinforcement for loads exceeding 20 kg
Step 2: Use the right anchors
Choose anchors rated for the total load (bike + rack). For a 30 kg e-bike, opt for metal expansion anchors rated for at least 50 kg. Always use at least 2 attachment points.
Step 3: Check level and stability
After installation, test the stability of the rack by applying manual pressure before hanging your bike on it. A spirit level is essential to ensure stable and aesthetic storage.
Step 4: Precautions with the battery
If your e-bike has a removable battery, remove it before hanging the bike. This lightens the weight and reduces the risk of damage during handling.
