Wall-mounted bike rack: a step-by-step installation guide

Installing a wall-mounted bike rack may seem daunting, but with the right tools and steps, it's an accessible project even for a novice DIYer. Follow this guide for a strong and durable installation.

Step 1: Choose the right location

Locate a load-bearing wall or a concrete wall in your home. Avoid plasterboard partitions without studs: they will not support the weight of a bicycle over time. Use a stud finder if necessary.

Step 2: Mark the fixing points

Using the template provided with your bracket (or a spirit level), mark the exact location of the wall plugs with a pencil. Check that the marks are level before drilling.

Step 3: Drill and plug

Use a drill bit suitable for your wall material (concrete, brick, plasterboard). Insert the wall plugs provided with the kit or choose heavy-duty wall plugs if the wall is solid concrete. The quality of this step is crucial for safety.

Step 4: Secure the bracket

Screw the wall bracket firmly into place using a screwdriver or power drill. Check that the bracket does not move once fixed. If you feel any play, identify the problem before hanging your bike on it.

Step 5: Test the solidity

Before placing your bike on it, test the strength of the bracket by applying manual pressure downwards and sideways. If everything is stable, you can safely hang your bike.

Step 6: Hang the bike

Lift the bike and engage the wheel (or frame, depending on the model) in the bracket. Check that the bike is stable and not likely to tip over. For hook models, ensure the wheel is well centered.
