Install a road bike mount in 5 steps

Preparing to install your road bike mount

Installing a wall-mounted road bike rack is a simple task if you prepare for it correctly. Before drilling anything, consider the ideal location for your road bike rack. A good wall-mounted road bike rack should be easily accessible while leaving enough clearance around the hanging bike.

The tools required to install a road bike rack are: a drill, a spirit level, a pencil, wall plugs suitable for your wall, and the screws provided with the road bike rack. Some road bike rack models include a drilling template to make installation easier.

Step 1: identify the mounting points

The first step in installing your road bike rack is to determine the optimal height. Position your road bike rack at a height that allows you to comfortably take the bike off and put it back on. Generally, a wall-mounted road bike rack is fixed between 1.50 m and 1.80 m from the floor depending on your height.

Step 2: check the wall type

Before attaching a road bike rack, determine the type of wall (concrete, brick, drywall). A road bike rack on a concrete or brick wall is the most secure configuration. If your wall is drywall, the road bike rack must be attached to the partition studs or with special expansion fasteners.

Step 3: mark and drill

Using a pencil and a spirit level, mark the drilling locations for your road bike rack. Drill to the correct depth according to the road bike rack specifications. Insert the wall plugs into the holes before screwing in the road bike rack: this step is crucial to ensure the road bike rack holds securely over time.

Step 4: secure the road bike rack

Position the road bike rack against the wall and align the mounting holes with the wall plugs. Screw in the road bike rack by gradually tightening each screw to avoid misaligning it. A correctly fixed road bike rack should have no play or movement once the screws are fully tightened.

Step 5: test and validate the road bike rack

Before hanging your bike, test the strength of the road bike rack by pressing firmly on it. A good road bike rack should neither bend nor detach from the wall. If the road bike rack holds firm without moving, you can hang your road bike with confidence. Take care to adjust any adjustable elements of the road bike rack (arms, hooks) before final use.
