The electric bike challenge: weight and bulk
An electric bike weighs on average between 20 and 35 kg, sometimes more. This significant weight imposes strict requirements on the chosen wall-mounted bike rack: load capacity, appropriate wall mounting, and robust materials are non-negotiable.
Load capacity: the #1 criterion
Before any purchase, check the maximum load capacity of the rack. A quality brushed stainless steel bike rack generally supports 30 to 40 kg. Do not forget to include the weight of the removable battery if you leave it in place during storage.
Size: wide tires and bulky frames
E-bikes often have wider tires (2.0 to 2.8 inches) and a more imposing frame. Check that the bike rack has:
- An arm wide enough to accommodate wide tires
- An arm length adapted to prevent the handlebars or wheel from touching the wall
- A protective coating for the frame
Wall mounting: a critical point
For a heavy e-bike, wall mounting is paramount. Prefer installation using anchors adapted to the type of wall (concrete, brick, drywall) and use at least two anchor points. In case of doubt, call on a professional.
